There’s 2 sides of this post: the serious + the ridiculous.

Serious first. I’ve been slow to approach the topic of the Japan tsunami because it’s already been covered everywhere but also because I didn’t even want to believe it. I had to finally face reality and read up on it today. I saw the before/after photos and it is truly devastating to view. My heart goes out to all those affected. On a lighter note, here’s some bullshiet. There’s another YouTube video going viral and it’s of a caucasian girl ranting about Asians talking loudly in the library. Watch it here if you haven’t seen it. To be honest, I wasn’t too offended at first – because some of that shit is true haha. Don’t be acting like you’ve never been irritated by people of another race before. You’re entitled to your own opinion. This girl’s problem was that she said that shit out loud. And then posted it on YouTube. Dumbass.

So of course it spurred a ton of backlash and reaction videos. This one is my all-time favorite:

It gets a bit weird at the end but there’s golden nuggets in the beginning.

I’m surprised no one has blogged about this dress yet. It’s a garment that drips ink into the fabric and creates the design organically. It’s alien-like, it’s art, and it’s completely unwearable in reality but I like the model’s nail polish. Is it just me or does her hands look ultra-mega large? They seriously look as long as my foot. Anyway, I digress. Watch the dress in action below and see more here.

This is a Mangalitza sheep pig. When I first came across this picture, I thought it to be a travesty because I figured these pigs were genetically engineered to have sheep traits either to create opportunity for more wool or just because scientists could. I am in no way a PETA activist (they are crazies) but I do believe that in certain situations such as this, humans should just leave nature alone. Animals are not our genetic playgrounds to go in and eff up just because we have the capability.

Fortunately, this was not the case and the Mangalitza pigs are an actual rare breed originated from Britain. They are worth 5x the amount of a regular pig. Now I think they are actually kinda cute :]

I’ve noticed that Google’s started to send some traffic my way so I was curious and searched my blog. This is the result:

That’s pretty morbid and sad. I’m so glad I picked such a great title for my blog. Anyway, this reminded me of interesting designs in the post-mortem field that I’ve come across.

First is a product designed by Nadine Jarvis. It’s called Carbon Copies and it’s a wooden box that contains pencils made from the cremated remains of a person. Apparently one average person = 240 pencils. Each pencil is also stamped with the name of the person. The box includes a sharpener so once you sharpen and run out of all the pencils, the box becomes an urn. Once you get over the initial “Ew,” I think that this is a very creative way of recycling someone’s life. Instead of just resting in the ground forever or sitting on a mantle collecting dust, you can serve another purpose after death.

Secondly, we have a patented vertical screw-in coffin that saves real estate and labor since digging the holes for those large horizontal coffins take a lot of work! I think that with land becoming more and more valuable, this and other vertical coffin designs will be the future of burials.

And lastly, we have more eco-friendly funeral options such as skipping the embalming fluid or replacing the casket with a biodegradable fiber shroud. If you’ve spent your life in an ecologically responsible manner, then these are options for you to leave it in the same way.
